Noted for his classical and jazz performances, Byerly is steadfastly committed to producing and performing the music of the 20th century as well as commissioning new music. His stage experience as a performer and in production is vast, encompassing performances at the leading centers of culture in the northern hemisphere – from dingy jazz clubs and smoky lounges to concert halls and some of the most highly respected theaters in the United States.

As a music director, Doug Byerly has lead professional, community and academic companies in productions of opera, operetta and musical theater (over 100 productions to date). He has over 25 years of classroom experience, having taught elementary, middle school, high school (including music magnet and arts schools) and college. In addition to teaching at AACC, Byerly is the director of Choirs and adjunct professor of Voice at Washington College (Chestertown), music director at St. John the Evangelist Church in Hydes, and the director of music for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. He also serves on the board of trustees for the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra.

Byerly holds his Master of Music from the Peabody Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Music from Western Michigan University.
