To be eligible to receive federal, state and institutional student financial aid, you must meet all of the following requirements:

• Be admitted to an eligible program of study leading to an associate degree or a financial aid-approved certificate.
  Learn which credit programs are ineligible for financial aid.
• Be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen
• Have a valid high school or GED® diploma, or complete a home-school program approved by state law
• Register only for courses required for your program of study. Financial aid will only pay for classes required for your AACC associate degree or eligible AACC certificate program.
  Learn how to evaluate your program progress.
• Maintain the conditions of our Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy.
• Not be in default of a federal educational loan, or owe a refund on a federal grant
• Meet all eligibility requirements as notified by our office and meet the specific requirements for each award
• Demonstrate financial need.

AACC Attendance

AACC requires all instructors to have an attendance policy for their course which follows AACC Academic Regulations on Registration and Attendance as listed in the AACC Catalog. You must adhere to your instructor's attendance policy and be marked as attended to receive financial aid for that class.

Award Changes and Cancellations

AACC's financial aid office retains the right to cancel or reduce awards of federal, state or institutional financial aid programs as sound administrative practices may dictate.

Repeat Classes and Financial Aid Eligibility

Federal financial aid regulations limit the number of times a student may repeat a course and receive federal financial aid for that course.   In addition to meeting the repeat course requirements to receive TIV aid, all classes must be required for the student’s program of study.

 Repeat course rules starts from the first time a student successfully completes the class (D or higher).  Students can take a course as many times as they are allowed and fail or withdraw from it and TIV aid will cover it, but once they pass it with a D grade or higher, federal awards will only pay for it one more time.  If an “F” grade is received after their first passing grade, it counts as a repeat and no further attempts will be covered.  However, if the grade is a “W”, “FX”, cancelled or dropped by the student then that grade will not count as an attempt.

Once a repeated class can no longer be counted within a student's enrollment for federal financial aid purposes, no further federal aid can be paid toward that class.

• It is irrelevant for financial aid purposes if a student is required to retake a class to meet major/program GPA requirements.
• It is irrelevant if a student has a personal desire to receive an improved grade.
• This rule may seem unfriendly to the academic career of a student. The rule is federal law. There is no appeal process and the rule cannot be overridden by AACC.
